Polygraph lie detector testing

Introduction

Our analysts use the latest equipment and techniques and are properly qualified. Our evidence is geared to the legal system and the Courts.

Appointments last about 2h 30mins. Routinely, our analysts undertake appointments anywhere in England and Wales. Therefore, we ask you for a quiet venue that is uninterrupted for 2-3 hours. It could be a private house or hotel room (rent room; 3hours); but it must be a quiet place.

Medical matters

The subject must not be pregnant, and must be over 15 years old.

Alcohol and medicines: It is important that the subject is in a fit state to be tested. Although for most people that means no alcohol in the system, for someone who is dependant upon alcohol this won’t be a problem as long as they are not actually drunk. The reason for this is that they are used to operating with a level of alcohol and this forms part of their ‘normal’ condition. Prescribed medication may be relevant and our analyst will need to ask what medicines are being taken at the time particularly if the subject has issues relating to heart rate or blood pressure.

How it works

Four physiological parameters are measured:

  • Pneumograph: breathing and chest movement is measured continuously by means of two rubber tubes placed around the subject’s chest and abdomen, over his/her clothing.
  • Skin resistance: progressive changes in galvanic skin response is measured by means of two finger plates placed across the fingers of one hand.
  • Relative blood pressure.
  • Pulse rate: these are both measured continuously by a cardiosphygmograph which uses an upper-arm cuff, similar to a blood pressure monitor.

Two phases are involved in an appointment session:

  • Phase 1: comprises an interview that lasts for about 1h 45mins. The purpose is to standardise and calibrate the computer equipment. It’s a kind of electronic ‘getting to know you’. The analyst needs to make precise automated baseline measurements concerning the four physiological parameters listed above. This baseline testing involves a computerised analysis of the subject’s physiological reactions to a whole range of questions or issues or feelings held either strongly or weakly.
  • Phase 2: is the actual test which commonly lasts about 30 - 40 minutes. The critical questions agreed with the client in advance will always be asked at least twice - typically in different ways.

Matrimonial / fidelity cases

In matrimonial / fidelity cases, we would prefer to talk with the spouse and the person taking the test - together. We will review together the issue in detail, and set the questions for the test. It is important that the client understands that a maximum of three relevant questions will be asked for each issue in order to prove or disprove an issue. A limit like this actually keeps the test specific, tightly defined, and accurate. The spouse cannot be in the room when the actual test is conducted because we cannot measure what effect this will have on the person taking the test. Our analyst would be happy to discuss the outline of the questions with the spouse by phone before the test.

Confidentiality

Of course, the test cannot be done without due written consent from the subject. Once the test has been done the results are confidential to the subject. It is the subject’s data - for him/her to share or not, with whomsovever they want/allow. We won’t get involved with divulging any such confidential information unless we are specifically instructed or allowed by the subject, in writing.

Booking

A non-refundable deposit is required because a significant number of clients book up, and then cancel later because they decide that they believe their partner - because the partner is happy to take the test! (Having said that, beware of convincing bluff.)

Ring our office as soon as you know that you want to go ahead; don’t leave it till the last minute because our analysts get booked up.

Finally, do ring us if you have any questions.
